ArcCatalog provides an easy Wizard driven approach to metadata compilation. Full ISO 19115 Metadata can be compiled for a spatial data resource in a matter of minutes. The user can type relevant metadata into the Wizard, frequently used metadata items such as addresses and copyright can be inserted automatically, templates can be used to standardise metadata across users. If you manage your spatial data using ArcCatalog it will automatically create and maintain the descriptive metadata elements (spatial extents, co-ordinate system etc.,) for you. 

ArcCatalog is fully compliant with the ISO 19115 and ISO 191136 standards and the Gemini Metadata Standards (applicable for the Northern Ireland marketplace). Compilation of your metadata to these standards ensures compliance with the Implementation Rules of the Directive and also that your metadata is transportable between systems.
