Metadata Server is an intrinsic part of ArcIMS. It enables any ISO 19115 compliant metadata to be published on the internet so that others can find or “discover” it. Metadata Server maintains an online Catalogue of Metadata Records. All metadata records in the catalogue are word indexed so that they can be searched using any word in the body of the metadata. Additional search keys provided as standard include:

• Spatial extent, search by a particular user defined map extent
• Temporal Extent, search by a particular user defined time period
• Topic Category, search by ISO 19115 Topic Category

Additional classifications such as Organisation can also be used so that users can search for data from a particular organisation.

Metadata Server is supplied with a pre-build Web Application called Metadata Explorer. Metadata Explorer can be installed on your web site to provide instant search and browse capabilities against Metadata Server.
